A race can start with a simple question: what would make it possible for every child to take part? At Walk with Austin’s sixth annual TRY-athlon, the answer includes volunteer buddies, flexible equipment and room for families to stay alongside their athletes.

The event returns to El Dorado Hills Community Park & Pool on Saturday, October 3, from 9 AM to noon. It is open to kids of all abilities, and the organizers welcome athletes of any age. Each participant has a buddy for the course; life jackets, adaptive bikes, strollers and other needed equipment are welcome.

The route combines two swim laps, a 3K bike ride and a 2K run or roll. Registration is $50 per athlete, with an option to inquire about scholarships. A shirt, bib, medal, swag bag and a finisher party with games and treats are included. Heat assignments and specific start times will come closer to race day.

The race is one part of a broader local effort. Walk with Austin’s mission is to create more opportunities for children with disabilities to play and feel welcome. Its website describes the practical barriers families can face, including the cost of adaptive bikes and travel equipment, and invites families to ask about support.

For neighbors looking to help, the organization lists volunteer and sponsorship opportunities as well as athlete registration. For families considering the race, the registration page is the place to review the course and scholarship option before signing up. There is time to plan, ask about individual needs and decide whether this year’s TRY-athlon is a fit.
