⭐ Something I've Been Building
Hey everyone, Leo here!
I’ve been building an app. It started as a way to get my dad walking more. He’s always busy, and “go for a walk” never really stuck. So I tried turning walking into a little game.
It's called Pinfolk. You pick a place on the map, like a park, a trail or a local landmark, and walk there to earn its stamp. Come back on another day and your stamp evolves. Every place has a short story, and after you walk a quarter mile you can leave a pin of your own for the next person to find.

My dad has been testing it around El Dorado Hills and Folsom. There are already 47 places on the map, from Kalithea Park to the Johnny Cash Trail. A free iPhone beta opens to Lil City readers in the next few days. Follow @lilcitymedia and @lilcityfolsom, and I'll post the link there first.
Want an invite sent straight to you? Just reply to this email, and I’ll send it to you as soon as the beta opens.
If it helps my dad, maybe it can help a few more of us get outside too!

Folsom Takes a Step Toward New E-Bike Rules, and the Parks Are at the Center of It
— by Lil City Staff

Folsom is one step closer to new rules for electric bikes and similar devices in its parks and on its trails. The City Council voted 4-1 this week to move forward with a proposed ordinance that would cap speeds, limit riding to paved pathways, and add fines of $100, $250, and $500 for repeat violations. Parents could also be held financially responsible for violations by riders under 18. The ordinance still needs a second reading in about two weeks before it becomes law, and the first parks being considered for outright e-bike bans are Economy Family Park and Prospector Park, where complaints have been highest.
Much of the conversation at the meeting came from people who spend time in those parks. A coalition of local sports leagues described teens on e-bikes damaging turf, harassing players, and riding off before adults or police could respond. An emergency physician urged the council to think of these machines as closer to motor vehicles than bicycles, describing injuries he has treated that he said look more like car and motorcycle crashes. At the same time, one resident who lives near Economy Park offered a different view, saying the problem isn’t the bikes, it’s the behavior of the kids riding them. Several of those themes, like the pull between safety and access, echo what we asked readers about in an earlier edition.
The council seemed to share some of that balance. The mayor said the goal is to give police better tools, not to ban e-bikes everywhere, and the ordinance lets the city close individual parks as problems come up. City staff also plan an education campaign focused on what riders can do, not just what they can’t. The lone dissenting vote came from a councilmember who wanted a clearer process for residents to ask for their own neighborhood park to be added to the list.
It’s a reminder that this issue doesn’t have one easy answer. Should the focus be on restricting where e-bikes can go, or on holding riders and parents accountable for how they ride? And if you’re a parent, a rider, or someone who uses these parks, what would make you feel the rules were fair and actually worked?
