Hands4Hope Youth: A Record-Setting Year of Service

by Leo C.

This past year, Hands4Hope – Youth Making A Difference had their biggest impact ever. Students across our area logged 14,841 service hours, reaching nearly 12,700 people and animals. That’s not just a number, it’s thousands of lives touched by local teens stepping up to help.

At their 14th Annual Youth Recognition Event, student leaders shared how much the program has changed them. Lily Hinkle, a senior at Ponderosa High, said she started as a shy middle schooler. Hands4Hope gave her the confidence to communicate better, manage her time, and build friendships that will last beyond high school.

For the first time since Hands4Hope began in 2008, every single high school club leadership team earned a President’s Volunteer Service Award. From Union Mine to Folsom High to Oak Ridge, students gave hundreds of hours each, with Oak Ridge’s Inspire Club topping the list at over 1,000 hours. The Youth Board Executive Committee also reached Gold Level with nearly 1,500 hours.

Hands4Hope proves that volunteering isn’t just about hours on a sheet. It’s about growing as leaders, learning to work together, and seeing firsthand how youth can make a difference.

As Lil City Voices grows, we’ll be showcasing more of these inspiring nonprofits. Our goal is to highlight the organizations shaping our community, and maybe even find ways for us to make an impact too. Stay tuned for more stories like this, and if you know a nonprofit that deserves the spotlight, let us know!
