A Birthday to Remember at Leatherby's
— by Lil City Staff

A local veteran and his wife decided to start celebrating early with a trip to Leatherby's in Citrus Heights. He wore his USMC shirt and cover, ordered an ice cream sundae, and when the staff gathered around to sing happy birthday, it felt like the evening couldn't get any sweeter.
Then it did. A woman and her daughter approached the table. They wished him a happy birthday, then thanked him for his military service. A few moments later, when he went to pay the bill, the server told him it had already been taken care of. That kind stranger had paid for his entire party—his wife and two neighbors included.
He doesn't remember the woman's name, though he thinks her daughter might be called Natalie. But he won't forget what she did. In a post shared with our community, he wrote simply: "If you read this, please know that I was deeply touched by your actions. Thank you and God bless you and your lovely daughter."
The post quickly filled with birthday wishes and gratitude of its own. Fellow veterans thanked him for his service. Neighbors celebrated the kindness of a stranger. And many said the same thing: we need more stories like this. On the eve of his 75th birthday, a veteran who served from 1969 to 1977 was reminded that some people still notice a uniform, still say thank you, and still find small, beautiful ways to honor those who served. All over a sundae with a single candle. 💛
